Obikwa Sauvignon Blanc

Obikwa Sauvignon Blanc
Variety:   Sauvignon Blanc
Region: Western Cape
Country: South Africa
Year: 2010
Price: $8

Winery review: "OBiKWA Sauvignon Blanc is the ideal summer wine  and smacks of crisp tropical fruit with a smattering of gooseberries and fig. If you're planning a night out with mates - don't forget to bring along a bottle of this yummy potion!"

My review: I enjoyed this wine. The presence of fruit made the otherwise heavy wine a bit lighter, which I enjoyed. I also thought the alcohol presence was not too strong in the overall smell. I was not able to try this wine with food.

Felino Vina Cobos (Paul Hobbs)

Felino Vina Cobos (Paul Hobbs)
Variety:  Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Mendoza
Country: Argentina
Year: 2009
Price: $10.50 by glass

Winery review: A deep ruby hue accompanies an earthy nose, rich with aromas of fine-grained leather and licorice. The palate is
generous and complex, with intrepid notes of black currant and boysenberry weaved together with graphite and sweet
tobacco. Ripe, plush tannins combine with subtle minerality creating an ideal balance and a lengthy finish.

My review: Overall, I did not like this wine. It was thick and had a strong mid-palate and it was not something I was used to. The aromas from the wine were musty almost and I was not able to try this wine with food.

Seghesio Zinfandel

Seghesio Zinfandel
Variety:  Zinfandel
Region: Sonoma, California
Country: United States
Year: 2009

Winery review: Bold aromas of briary wild berry and cracked pepper lead to plush and layered black raspberry, toasty sage and
espresso flavors that finish with zesty tannins. This lusty Zinfandel offers elegant berry fruit, lots of peppery spice,
medium to full-bodied flavors and impressive purity as well as richness.

My review: Overall, I liked this wine. The wine exuded strong scents and it was very different and thicker than most. I found the wine to be full in taste and different from what I am used to. I was not able to try this wine with food.

ripe raspberries and strawberries, layered with subtle nuances of vanilla oak lead to a rich, full fruit finish.

My review: Overall, I enjoyed this wine. I found it to be fruity and have a slight kick at the end of each sip. The alcohol smell did show through a good amount but I wasn't anything bad. I was not able to try this wine with food. I also found the wine to be light and good for summer.

Rock & Vine “Three Ranches” Cabernet Sauvignon

Rock & Vine “Three Ranches” Cabernet Sauvignon
Variety:  Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: North Coast, California
Country: United States
Year: 2009
Price: $8 by glass

Winery review: The elegant styled Rock & Vine exhibits gorgeous aromatics of pure black cherry and cassis interwoven with black tea
and toasty oak. Medium bodied, with a solid core of blackberry and dark cherry fruit and hints of tobacco notes followed
by great texture, sweet tannins, dense weight, equilibrium and a long finish..

My review: I found this wine to be too thick. The wine was strong with the smell of alcohol and the thick body was not something I was used to. I was not able to try this wine with food.
